Part 5 of our 5-part June series:
Content and Language Integration for Multilingual Learners

WIDA promotes a functional language approach across all content areas, including mathematics, to enhance the educational experiences of multilingual learners. In this session, participants will unpack what constitutes “visuals” and how they can best operate within the Narrative and Explanation genres to support multilingual learners with mathematics language acquisition. Join Dr. Karen Terrell, GATESOL 1st Vice President, and Ye Na Parrett, GaDOE Math/ESOL Specialist, as we explore the text organizations and occurrences of these key language uses and determine how visuals can be used both receptively and expressively. We will also discuss, as a community, ways to employ these tools in our mathematics practices going forward.
