The Heart of Learning: Teaching the Language of Self-Advocacy

  • 04/13/2023
  • 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM
  • On Zoom

Part 2 of our year-long highlight:
Student, Parent, and Community Empowerment

Drawing from Special Education, Dr. Josephine Prado, Emily Day, and Dr. Lori Edmonds describe self-advocacy through a four-point definition and skill-set needed for self-determination. Considering cultural complexities, participants will use scenarios to discuss the cultural, emotional, and academic relevance of self-advocacy for multilingual learners. Participants will also take away a purpose and practical techniques to instill self-advocacy in their students.
