RATIONALE

Educators are working hard and enduring much to meet the needs of their students.  Their stakeholders are watching to see if the classroom teachers and administrators in K-12 and Higher Education are able to increase student test scores.  Lack of time to collaborate and allow the creative juices to flow add to the pressure professionals experience.  These issues make it difficult to feel empowered as a teacher to make a difference in the lives of multilingual and multicultural populations.  As a result, educators start to feel they are alone in their professional and educational struggles.

Whether you are an ESOL Teacher, Administrator, Student, “Re-fired” Retired Individual, or Community Leader, Summer should be a time to relax and reflect on your past experiences.  There are many Summer camps and programs for students to apply what they have learned and yet learn something new.  Educators and other professionals need such a time to do the same.  During such a time, a "meeting of the minds" can remind you of what you have learned and yet provide new connections that you did not realize you needed.

KEY DETAILS

Plan to re-energize and come to our GATESOL Regional Meeting!  The theme of the meeting is “Coming Together: Being a Piece of the Puzzle.”  It will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016, 10am – 3pm Eastern Standard Time, at the beautiful Tubman Museum in Macon, Georgia!

Attendees will participate in ice-breaker activities, networking opportunities, group discussions, and learn about and share best practices and strategies to reach English Learners and multilingual and multicultural populations.  We will share information about GATESOL, how you can develop partnerships, and what can be done to take advantage of leadership opportunities.  Lunch will be provided by Subway.  Complimentary services are provided by the Macon-Bibb County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
